Police in Nigeria say an explosion at a bus station has killed at least 71 people and injured 124 others.
The blast ripped through the Nyanya bus terminal on the outskirts of the capital, Abuja, as people traveled to work Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria quotes a survivor as saying the blast came from a vehicle parked in front of high-capacity buses. He said the driver parked the car and disappeared before the explosion.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but suspicion fell on the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which often attacks public areas like markets and schools.
The militants are suspected in weekend attacks that killed at least 60 people in Borno state. Nigerian newspapers report assailants attacked two villages at night, killing residents in their homes and setting fire to houses and shops.
Boko Haram has been blamed for thousands of deaths since launching an insurgency against the government in 2009. Amnesty International said two weeks ago that 1,500 people have died in Boko Haram-related violence this year.
