Chinese PM in Ethiopia as Part of Africa Tour

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Ethiopia Sunday on the first leg of his four-nation tour of Africa.

China's official Xinhua news agency says Mr. Li will hold talks with Ethiopian leaders, including Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and President Mulatu Teshome. Mr. Li will also meet with Chinese and African business leaders for talks on trade cooperation.

While in Ethiopia, the Chinese premier will visit the African Union headquarters to deliver a speech on Beijing's commitment to deepening the China-Africa strategic partnership.

Mr. Li will also visit Nigeria, Angola and Kenya on his week-long trip.

Before his departure from Beijing, Mr. Li released a statement urging Chinese companies in Africa to abide by local laws and regulations and take responsibility to protect the interests of local communities and the environment.

He also called on relevant African countries to strengthen market regulation and protect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies and the safety of their employees.
