Saudi Arabia says it has arrested 135 people suspected of scheming to sabotage security in the kingdom.

The Interior Ministry said Sunday those arrested included 26 foreign nationals, among them 16 Syrians and three Yemenis. Riyadh said the detainees belonged to suspected terrorist groups, with some of them having fought as insurgents in other countries and now planning to launch attacks inside Saudi Arabia. It said other suspects were accused of smuggling weapons into Saudi Arabia and helping raise money for terrorist groups. Saudi Arabia did not say when the arrests were made.

The arrests came as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Bahrain are taking part in the U.S.-led aerial bombardment of Islamic State militants in Syria. Saudi pilots who took part in the initial raids in September, among them a son of the crown prince, received online death threats after their pictures were published.
