A man apparently planning to carry out a suicide bombing blew himself up at a Beirut hotel late Wednesday, as Lebanese security forces were closing in on him.

A second suspected would-be bomber was arrested and 10 people were injured.

The incident occurred as security forces were raiding the Duroy Hotel.

It was the third blast in Lebanon in less than a week.

A suspected car bomber struck near a cafe south of the Lebanese capital early Tuesday, triggering a blast that killed himself and wounded several others.

On Friday, authorities said a suicide bomber blew himself up at a police checkpoint on the Beirut-Damascus highway in eastern Lebanon killing at least one person and wounding more than 30.

Hardline Sunni militants have claimed responsibility for a number of recent attacks against Shi'ites in the region. Militants say the bombings are aimed at punishing Shi'ite Lebanese Hezbollah fighters for their military role in Syria's civil war as supporters of embattled President Bashar al-Assad.
