A small plane has crashed in Nigeria's largest city, Lagos, killing at least eight people.

Nigeria's emergency management agency says the plane suffered engine trouble shortly after takeoff Thursday and crashed near a fuel depot at Lagos's domestic airport.

There were at least 20 people aboard the plane, an Associated Airlines chartered aircraft that was headed to the town of Akure.

Officials say there are survivors. At least one person was rushed to a hospital.

A deadly plane crash in Lagos last year renewed concerns about aviation safety in the country.

All 153 people died in that accident last June, when a Dana Airlines jet crashed into a neighborhood nine kilometers from the airport.
